This book started out exciting as Jonathan Harker journeys to meet Count Dracula in Transylvania. He is imprisoned in Dracula's castle while Dracula makes plans to travel to London where there are more people to victimize. However, when the scenes change to London, the book starts to become boring. One of the characters, Van Helsing, makes long, repetitive speeches that bogs the book down. Stoker creates a smart, vigorous woman in the character of Mina. I enjoyed reading her journal, her thoughts and her critiques of the horrible situation she found herself. Overall, the book was interesting and readable. I didn't give it 5 stars because of the Van Helsing's monologues which slowed down the storyline.
